Study Diary, 09/20/08
September 20, 2008 – 11:09 amDays left until the JLPT: ~78
My sentences review is on hold for this weekend while I brush up for my placement test on Monday. At least, I hope I’m taking a placement test on Monday. We do have a completely new teacher for this semester, and so I can assume that she’ll want to know what sort of students we are coming into this fall semester.
It sounds ridiculous to study for a placement test, but there’s no reason I shouldn’t put my best foot forward. I’ve been through Genki book 2 all the way, and there’s no reason a placement test shouldn’t bear that out. The only problem is that I’ve spent so much time on stuff far ahead of that this summer that some of the super simple stuff that is going to be on the placement test has suffered. Specifically my kanji writing vocabulary has become a little rusty. I can recognize a ton more kanji words than I could before, but I haven’t had to spontaneously write down a kanji word for this entire summer.
My ultimate goal is to place myself out of the beginners’ class I’m in, and in with the rest of the foreign exchange students in the intermediate class. If that doesn’t happen, there is still an upside in that my regular schooling wouldn’t get too much in the way of my studying for the JLPT2.
I’m also antsy to see where the rest of my classmates fit after their experiences this summer. We’ll see what happens with it.
